Frontline's The Vaccine War, presents the benefits and the so-called dangers of childhood vaccination. It was said that lifespan has increased as much as 30 years and now 16 diseases are now preventable, including measles, mumps, rubella, and polio. The problem is concerned parents have seen a supposed correlation between vaccination (particularly the MMR vaccine) and autism diagnosis. For those that do not understand that there is a distinct difference between correlation and causation, they believe MMR vaccine (later a mercury compound) is responsible for the autism. This correlation can be justified using this fact stated in the video: the time at which the first MMR vaccine is administered is similar to the typical onset of autism symptoms.
In addition, 12 scientific studies from around the world have proven that there is no causality between autism and the MMR vaccine nor its Hg component. Furthermore, the Wakefield paper that served as the foundation for "deadly vaccine"viewpoint was discounted as psuedo-science when it was found that some of the children were selected to serve a political agenda.
We are so close to eradicating these diseases from the planet. Why stop now when the benefits are so great?
That is very interesting. My mom was also one of those concerned people due to the fact that her brother began to develop symptoms of autism around the same time he was vaccinated with the MMR vaccine when he was younger. The entire event was definitely a worrisome time for many. My question is that are parents now not vaccinating their children because they are afraid of these reports such as with the MMR vaccine? My mom is against some vaccination on children (more than likely by her personal experience with it), but I wonder if this is actually a thought taken into account by many other parents. And I also wonder how The Vaccine War became so popular within our history. I wonder if the scare was somewhat intentional by media sources?
