So sorry, I still inexplicably can't comment on other posts. This is in response to Tamara's post, "Side Effects."
Thanks for your post, I agree completely. It also reminds me again of how overdiagnosed ADD/ADHD are, and how many kids are taking Ritalin and other prescription drugs who shouldn't be. Ritalin has many similar side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, sweating, tingling, headache, vomiting, and blurred vision, but so many kids are taking it who don't need to. Maybe the discrepancy has something do to with going to the doctor before and after a problem occurs: parents might be more inclined to take risks to fix a problem they already see than to take risks preventing a problem which may never happen. That's especially likely if they have no experience with it, like polio. The fact that the autism "link" to vaccines is such a prevalent worry makes any preventative action to increasingly rare diseases even less appealing.
